A short description of two real-world examples illustrating the key points
An explanation, in your words, of why we should care about the topic

Paper (30%)
For best results, follow this checklist:
Choose a topic from any of the chapters relating to a field that interests you. Write a brief paragraph about the topic. IMPORTANT: Take a position and clearly state your claim. This is your thesis, the point you are trying to prove.
Make a list of at least five credible sources and prepare an annotated bibliography of the sources. An annotated bibliography does more than just list the sources—it also summarizes the author’s position and lists the supporting evidence, pro and con, for your own position.
Your paper should have three main components:
An opening paragraph (300-500 words)
A main body consisting of a number of logically arranged paragraphs that offer supporting evidence for your claim (5-7 pages)
A closing paragraph, summing up your position and reaffirming the validity of your claim (200-500 words)
Format your paper according to MLA format (see other side for guidelines)
The paper will be evaluated according to the writing rubric on the other side of this handout.
Quizzes (30%)
At least three quizzes will be given. You will receive advance notice so you can prepare. The format of the quizzes has yet to be determined.
Format your paper in academic MLA style, which means, 1-inch margins all around, Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced. See MLA format notes for details. Your paper will be graded on analysis (content), writing skills, and proper formatting on a 5 point rubric as follows.
